JON SCEPANSKI

President, TAHCH&H

Jon Scepanski is the Chief Operating Officer for Apex Primary Care in Edinburg, Texas. Jon attended Northwood University in Midland, Michigan where he studied Advertising and Marketing Management. For the last two years he has served as the Personal Assistant Services Board Auspice position. Jon is TAHC&H’s Current President and has also served on the TAHC&H Community Care Services Committee, the Government Affairs Committee, and has served as Chair of the Membership & Public Affairs Committee.

KRISTEN ROBISON

RN, TAHC&H President Elect

Kristen Robison has been an RN since 2006 and has worked in pediatric home health since 2003. She is currently the VP of Governmental Affairs for Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health. She has served as Chair of the TAHCH Pediatric Committee in the past for 3 consecutive years; being awarded Chairperson of the Year twice. She has also served on the TAHCH board of directors in the Pediatric auspice. This past year Kristen has been President-elect, learning and preparing to serve TAHCH in the role of President. Kristen is a strong advocate for home health and hospice providers and the clients they serve. 

RACHEL HAMMON

RN, BSN, Executive Director, TAHC&H

Rachel Hammon received her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas in Austin. She has 26 years of experience in nursing with 22 years’ experience in the home health industry. During her employment with a home health agency, she served in many roles (i.e. Pediatric Case Manager, Medicare Case Manager, DON / Administrator and Corporate Director of Clinical Services), which gave her a diverse knowledge of the industry. At the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice Rachel assisted member agencies with compliance with state and federal laws (Medicare, Medicaid, OSHA, BON, etc.), served as a liaison with state and federal government officials, and on the Nurse Practice Advisory Committee for the Board of Nurse Examiners, the committee that developed the RN Delegation Rules we are talking about today. As the Executive Director, Rachel is responsible for implementing the mission of the association which is to advocate for ethical practices, quality, and economic viability of licensed providers of home and community support services in Texas. As part of that advocacy she routinely works with legislators and state agency staff on legislation and policy that affects the home care industry.

CHARLES CANAAN

Palmetto GBA, Provider Outreach & Education

Charles Canaan has over 30 years of diverse nursing experience in a variety of healthcare settings, to include inpatient, outpatient, home and organizational settings.  His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia and a Master of Public Health Degree in Health Promotion and Education from the University of South Carolina and a Coding for Health Care Professionals Certificate from Trident technical College.  He currently provides education and consultation to Medicare providers with learning needs.

DAN GEORGE

Palmetto GBA, Senior Provider Relations Representative

Dan George has been with the Medicare program since 2004. In 2008, he became part of Palmetto GBA’s Congressional Unit. This unit handled complex inquiries for Part A, Part B and Home Health and Hospice. His experience is extensive in, but not limited to, coverage polices, compliance, billing, enrollment, and systems. In 2007 and 2008, he was a manager for Palmetto GBA’s Beneficiary Call Center. Prior to working with Medicare, Dan worked in skilled nursing facilities for 12 years. He directed Dietary Departments, which included participation in nutritional assessments, care planning, wound rounds, and patient documentation.  Since late 2012, he has been a part of Palmetto GBA’s Provider Outreach & Education Department, focusing on Home Health & Hospice.

CARA MIA WILKINS

Cara Mia Wilkins, better known as Mia, is a graduate from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts. She has over 10 years of Healthcare Marketing experience. Mia currently serve as a Senior Provider Relations Representative for the Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) in Palmetto GBA’s Provider Outreach and Education department. In this position, she travels throughout the United States conducting workshops, exhibits and web-based training for providers on the Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) coverage and billing guidelines.

ANITA FOSTER

MSW, Ph.D, Master Caregivers

A Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership qualifies Dr. Anita as an expert in management and leadership.  An undergraduate and a Master’s in Social Work adds to her educational advancement and knowledge of the social effects of equality.  As a Certified Professional Coach, Dr. Anita is also qualified as a motivator for professional and individual growth, intelligence, professionalism, ethical values, leadership skills, and educational creativity.  These are a few of the extraordinary attributes Dr. Anita exhibits as a speaker, teacher, mentor, trainer, coach, and motivator. With over 25 years of leadership experience, Dr. Anita believes inclusion starts with diversity. In-Depth knowledge of federal and state regulations allow Dr. Anita to train on policy and procedures at multiple levels. A resume holding positions of administrator, director, owner, and operator of several organizations across her career makes Dr. Anita’s character and personality can be defined as an overall professional in leadership, management, and simply hands-on in employee oversight.

ERIN VALLIER

Account Executive, AlayaCare

Erin Vallier earned an Individually Structured Liberal Arts degree in Physical Science, Psychology, and Music Performance from the University of Colorado, Denver. She earned a Masters in Healthcare Administration and Management, with a Project Management Specialty, from Colorado State University. Erin began her career in the fitness industry in 2005. After earning her bachelors, she transitioned to the home care space with a passion bred from personal and family experience. She has held management roles in the QA, intake, OASIS, and HR departments, and has helped facilitate numerous successful state and CHAP surveys for the organization she worked for. Erin was responsible for maintaining clinical documentation compliance, writing and revising policies and procedures, and for writing and facilitating new hire training for all clinical employees, including EMR and OASIS education. Her last role in home health was marketing - a natural segway to her role at AlayaCare – Account Executive.

AMY KNIGHT

CPA, President, Knight CPA Group

Amy L. Knight is a CPA, originally from Oklahoma and now based in Austin, Texas with over 20 years experience almost exclusively in home health and hospice.  Her CPA firm, Knight CPA Group, has extensive experience with all financial issues pertaining to home health, hospice and other healthcare providers including cost reporting, accounting & payroll issues that are specific to healthcare providers.

CANDYCE SLUSHER

LVN, CDCS, Owner, SLUSHER Consulting

Candyce Slusher LVN, CDCS is the founder of SLUSHER Consulting and is a geriatric-focused nurse serving San Antonio since 1995 in multiple settings, specifically PAS since 2004.  As a Home Care Consultant my primary goal is to help agencies provide the highest quality care to seniors in their communities through regulatory compliance, creating a culture of accountability, and simplifying work-flow systems. Candyce has spoken for the Alzheimer’s Association and has also served as Board Member and past President for the Alamo Area Home Care Council.

Jennifer Prescott RN, MSN CDP is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of Blue Water Homecare based in Austin, TX. Carla Cheatham began her career in psychosocial services with an MA in Psychology, certification in trauma therapy, PhD in Health & Kinesiology, and MDiv before working 10 years as an interfaith healthcare chaplain and bereavement coordinator.  Carla is a national keynote speaker and consultant focusing on emotionally intelligent and resilient professionals and organizations, Chair of NHPCOs Ethics Advisory Council, former Leader for NHPCO’s Spiritual Caregivers Community, Adjunct Professor at Seminary of the Southwest, and Assistant Professor for University of Maryland’s MS in Palliative Care.  She publishes books and videos about resilience, communication, boundaries, grief, healthy leadership, service recovery, and emotionally competent professionals.

JENNIFER GIBSON OSBURN

Jennifer Gibson Osburn is a Registered Nurse with over 26 years of combined staff nurse, clinical management, administrator, and technology experience. She is a certified OASIS specialist and Home Health coder and uses this diverse background to engage attendees across the nation.  Past seminar experience includes presentations for The Joint Commission, CHAP, NAHC, and numerous state home health associations. As a seasoned Medicare regulatory thought leader, Jennifer regularly trains on PDGM, Conditions of Participation, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, QAPI, Documentation, Coding, OASIS, agency operations and management.  Her heart for teaching and supporting home health professionals is the foundation on which she has launched a private home health education practice, Home Centered Insights. She is committed to the success of the home care industry and currently serves TAHCH’s Clinical Practice, Medicare, and Government Affairs committees.

Ms. Beverly Sepulveda is the founder, CEO, and Principle consultant for SynerImages Healthcare Consulting, a national healthcare and regulatory consulting firm in operation for over 23 years. She holds a Master's in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her nursing specialization is in quality assurance and accreditation compliance.

Ms. Sepulveda's consulting expertise covers a broad array of areas including Home Health Agencies, Therapy clinics, ORFs, CORFs, Hospitals and the MCO industry.

LAUREN PATRICK

M. A., Director of Development and Marketing, Helping Restore Ability

Lauren has had a passion for non-profit work since early in her college career. Lauren has provided marketing and programmatic support services in the sectors of education, social services, and now healthcare. After a time living in Colorado and Virginia, Lauren moved home to Texas and started working in the disability services field and is currently the Director of Development and Marketing at Helping Restore Ability, the largest nonprofit in-home attendant care provider in Texas. Lauren’s work has been recognized in a variety of publications, formats, and venues. Lauren believes in allowing stories to paint a picture and utilizing the mind’s eye to enhance and promote services. Lauren has a passion for generational marketing as well as using digital resources to enhance networking relationships.

Jo Alch, RN is the Founder and Director of Nursing at Acappella in Home Care. Jo worked as a hospice field and triage nurse for many years, discovering a big void in exceptional private duty care and nursing services. Jo opened Acappella in 2006, with a vision to be the leading private pay agency in the DFW area. Jo has won numerous awards for her efforts. She was selected as one of the “Great 100 RNs” in Dallas in 2007. In 2012, Jo was awarded D Magazine’s prestigious “Excellence in Nursing” for home care, and was also recognized by Nurses.com magazine as a regional finalist for outstanding home care nursing. Jo served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice, and had an active role on the private pay committee. She is currently serving on the board for the Community Council of Greater Dallas, and is the committee chair for the Dallas Area Agency on Aging. Jo is an active member of her church choir, recently performing at Carnegie Hall in NYC. She is originally from New Orleans, where she is in the Krewe of Muses. Jo has an amazing husband and three wonderful children.

IDALIA DIAZ

Idalia Diaz is the HCSSA Joint Trainer with Health & Human Services Policy, Rules & Training who obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center. Shortly after obtaining her license, she was employed by the San Antonio State Supported Living Center as an RN Case Manager, then later transferred to DADS Regulatory Services where she was a Nurse Surveyor and Death Reviewer. After spending some time with the regulatory team, she decided to teach and was a theory and clinical faculty member at a Vocational Nursing program, where she taught various subjects from fundamentals of nursing to mental health and leadership

CRISTINA FILIPPO

Colleen Bryan has worked in the home care industry since 1996, holding various positions in both home health & hospice agencies including field nurse, case manager, educator, QA manager, DON and Administrator.  Colleen is currently a senior consultant and lead educator with JCC Consulting, and services home health and hospice agencies in Texas.

Colleen enjoys helping agency leaders navigate the constant changes and challenges in the current home health and hospice industries.  She enjoys assisting in the incorporation of meaningful and impactful changes into their agency’s operations – both administrative and clinical, in order to provide high quality care that is both sustainable while maintaining regulatory requirements and promoting excellent patient care.

MELINDA GABOURY

COS-C, Chief Executive Officer, Healthcare Provider Solutions, Inc.

Melinda A. Gaboury, with more than 28 years in home care, has over 18 years of

executive speaking and educating experience, including extensive day to day interaction

with home care and hospice professionals. She routinely conducts Home Care and

Hospice Reimbursement Workshops and speaks at state association meetings throughout

the country. Melinda has profound experience in Medicare PDGM training, billing,

collections, case-mix calculations, chart reviews and due diligence. UPIC, RA, ADR &

TPE appeals with all Medicare MACs have become the forefront of Melinda’s current

impact on the industry. She is currently serving on the NAHC/HHFMA Advisory Board

and Work Group and is Associate Director on the Home Care Association of Florida

RICKY SMITH

Ricky Smith is the President of Innovative Business Technologies, a SOC II compliant Cloud Service Provider and Managed IT Service organization that works primarily with healthcare providers. Prior to IBT, Ricky spent 11 years with the homecare and hospice product group of McKesson Information Solutions. As Director of Technical Services, he became passionate about IT’s ability to facilitate patient care. In addition to 20 plus years in IT health-care, Ricky spent several years as a systems engineer and telecommunications technician in a high-profile financial and chemical engineering sector.  Ongoing research on technology trends, as it relates to healthcare providers, allows him to maintain expertise in data security, compliancy, business continuity, and risk analysis.

Kimberly Skehan is Director of Compliance, Regulatory & Quality

and hospice. Kim is nationally recognized and highly respected by state, federal and industry leaders. She has acted as a liaison to state and federal regulatory agencies and legislators

to facilitate collaboration regarding issues affecting the home care and hospice

industry. Kim currently serves as a member of the Regulatory Committee of the

National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Education

Committee for the National Association for Home Care and Hospice. She is

also a member of the Connecticut Association for Healthcare at Home

Kim is a certified consultant by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care

(ACHC) for home health, hospice and private duty care.

An AHCC-accredited home care coding specialist and certified OASIS reviewer

(COS-C), Kim earned her B.S. degree in nursing from Southern Connecticut

State University, and her M.S. degree in nursing administration from the

University of Connecticut (UCONN), where she has also served as adjunct

faculty for the School of Nursing.

MELYNDA LEE

Director of Growth Solutions, Simione Healthcare Consultants, LLC

Melynda Lee, a member of the Simione team since 2016, is an expert in home care and hospice sales, marketing and referral management, communications, public relations, administration and strategic planning. Melynda previously served as a home health and hospice leader in Florida

and Georgia for 8 years, and is a former board member and education committee member for the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Organization. She is a co-founder of the Greater Atlanta Hospice-Veteran Partnership. She is an expert trainer of home care and hospice professionals, and speaker at state and national association conferences. The recipient of a Digital Marketing Certificate from Cornell University, Melynda excels in assessment of marketing and communications programs,

brand and marketing communications, and client assistance to measure and improve competitive strategies for growth. She is also a True Colors®Certified Facilitator, helping individuals and teams identify their leadershipstyles to maximize performance, and holds a certificate in Instructional Design. Melynda earned a BFA in advertising design from University of North Florida,

MARCYLLE COMBS

After over 30 years in home health care and hospice, holding many positions including field nurse, director, administrator and owner/president of a successful home health and hospice company, Marcylle sold her business to embark on new opportunities. She has since founded 3 companies, serving as President over The Marcylle Combs Company, MAC Legacy Investments, a real estate development company and MAC Legacy – a home health care and hospice resource company. Marcylle is well known in Texas and nationally for her leadership in both the home care and hospice community. She has served on the TAHCH Government Affairs Committee since the ‘90s and is currently serving on the board of directors for The Home Care and Hospice Financial Managers Association (HHFMA); a professional organization bringing together CFOs, CEOs, COOs and other financial positions who are employed by the nation’s 25,000 home care and hospice agencies.  She also chairs the Women in Leadership group for HHFMA.  She enjoys speaking on various subjects such as mentoring, leadership and communication.

KAY HOLLERS

BSN, RN, MPH, Consultant, Healthcare Consultlink

Kay Hollers is well known to TAHCH audiences as she has been an active member or associate member since her return to Texas in 1985. Kay holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas with a major in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. She also earned a post-master’s Specialist Certification in Health Care Evaluation from Wayne State University College of Nursing in Detroit. Kay taught Public Health Nursing at Michigan State University and has practiced in and consulted with home health and hospice agencies large and small, public and private. She currently is a consultant with HealthCare Consultlink. Kay likes to share her experiences and knowledge with audiences and has been a frequent presenter for TAHCH conferences and seminars.

ARLENE MAXIM

RN, Clinical Consultant, Axxess

: Arlene is a sought-after speaker in all areas of patient care quality, analysis, and administrative functions in the post-acute healthcare world. She is a Board Member and Vice Chair for the Association for Homecare/Hospice Coding and Compliance out of Gaithersburg, Md. With more than 40 years of nursing experience, Arlene previously co-founded regional multimillion-dollar Medicare certified home health care companies, hospital-based home care and hospice companies, and transitional care programs. Early in her nursing career she combined her clinical knowledge with her home care/hospice interests and began working as a consultant in the home care and hospice field in 1986. The current focus of public speaking, training and consulting include, but is not limited to, newly released Conditions of Participation, Face-to-Face strategies, Pre-Claim Review, Home Health Grouping Model, OASIS 2; Star Ratings in homecare and hospice; functional improvement in patients in the home, the reduction in hospitalization and other significant changes we should expect in the near future. Arlene currently leads innovative change across the health care continuum.  Arlene’s energy, dedication, and passion continue to positively change the post-acute world of health care. 

JERRE VAN DEN BENT

PT Administrator, Therapy 2000

Jerre van den Bent, PT received his training as a physical therapist in his native Holland. He came to Texas in 1993, and has worked in pediatric home care since then. In May of 2000, Jerre launched THERAPY 2000 out of the basement of his home. THERAPY 2000 quickly became a leader in the in-home pediatric therapy industry. 

 

The company acquired Green Apple Therapy in 2017. The two companies currently provide services to more than 3000 families with a workforce of almost 400 physical, occupational and speech therapists. 

 

Jerre is a passionate volunteer for the Texas Physical Therapy Association and the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice. He has held numerous leadership roles in both organizations. His ability to raise funds for various Political Action Committees has earned him the nickname “The Dutch Arm Twister”.  

 

Jerre is active in the American Physical Therapy Association’s Health Policy and Administration Section. He earned his Certificate in Leadership development in 2011. In 2012, he became HPA’s first recipient of the “LAMP lighter Leadership award”. This award recognizes individuals who have affected significant change through formal or informal leadership roles. 

 

Jerre regularly travels to the Capitol in Austin to meet with Texas legislators, advocating on behalf of the profession of physical therapy and the home care industry. 

 

In his free time, Jerre enjoys traveling, working in his yard and listening to opera. He is a proud owner of three large fur babies, and while he aspires to be a true dog whisperer, his somewhat unruly pack often causes him to be more of dog yeller.

COURTNEY MULLANEY

Courtney Mullaney, MS, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who has been practicing for 20 years, the last 15 in the home health setting. For the past 2 years her title has been Director of Health Plan Relations at Therapy 2000. During this time she has worked closely with health plans across the state to build relationships and develop value-based agreements.  Most recently, she has served as the Therapy Sub-Committee chair for the Pediatric Committee of TAHCH.

ANNAMARIA TURANO

VP Marketing, Synzi

AnnaMaria M. Turano is the Vice President of Marketing for Synzi.  She is responsible for leading all marketing and branding initiatives for the company.  Prior to her client-side roles, AnnaMaria co-founded MCAworks, a strategic marketing consulting firm advising Fortune 500 companies on developing growth strategies.  A published writer, she is the co-author of Stopwatch Marketing: Take Charge of the Time When Your Customer Decides to Buy (Portfolio: 2008) and has also been an Adjunct Professor of Marketing at NYU, Fordham University, and the University of Tampa. She received both her B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
